On Tuesday 11th October, the St Andrew’s tag rugby team attended the Tag Rugby Mini Youth Games at Medway Rugby Club. 52 Schools took part in the first MYG event of the year, with each school playing 8 games throughout the day.
The morning started brightly with a 5-1 win over Halling. Our next game was against Burnt Oak, who proved to be a very strong opposition by winning the game 6-4. Our last two games of the morning were much more successful, winning both games against All Saints and Oasis Skinner Street 8-0.
The four games in the afternoon were all against very tough opposition from Deanwood, Lordswood, St Margaret’s and Hempsted. The afternoon started in the same way as the morning, with an impressive 3-1 win over Deanwood. From this game onwards, the St Andrew’s team took their performances up a level, playing some amazing rugby to win the next three games 6-2, 7-3 and 8-3 against three of the toughest opposition in the competition.
St Andrew’s finished the competition with 7 wins and one defeat, an excellent set of results. Overall, St Andrew’s finished in 7th position, meaning we had qualified for the Night of Champions in the Summer term!
The team should be very proud of how well they performed throughout the whole day; they received numerous compliments on their performances from teachers, Medway coaches and former St Andrew’s students!
