On Thursday 24th November, pupils from Years 5 and 6 took part in the MYG Badminton competition at Medway Park. Competing along with 38 other Schools, the St Andrew’s team would play in 8 matches which each consisted of a boys double, girls double and mixed double game.
The team started brilliantly; beating Bligh 3 – 0, St Margaret’s at Troy Town 2 – 1, St Michael’s 3 -0 and Horsted 3 – 0. This led us in to the lunch break undefeated, winning 11 of the 12 sets played.
After lunch, the team carried on this excellent form by beating Oaklands 2 – 1 and Hiltop 2 – 1, two very close matches. Our next match was against Featherby, who were also unbeaten throughout the day. Featherby won the boys doubles whilst St Andrew’s won the girls doubles. This meant the match would be decided by the mixed doubles game. Despite a spirited performance by the St Andrew’s pair, Featherby won the set 15-13 to secure the match 2-1.
Our last game was against Balfour; a team with the same record as we had. Despite three good performances, Balfour won the match 2 – 1 by winning the boys and girls doubles with St Andrew’s securing a point through the mixed doubles.
The St Andrew’s team finished with 6 wins and 2 defeats; a record they should all be very proud of. This record also meant that we finished in 8th position overall – another Night of Champions place achieved!
Well done to the whole team, they played brilliantly throughout the whole day and should be extremely proud.
