On Tuesday 31st January, pupils from year 6 participated in the MYG Basketball competition at Medway Park. 49 Medway Schools took part in the competition, with each school playing 8 matches.
Our day started off against Warren Wood. The St Andrew’s team hit their stride straight away, putting in a strong attacking performance to win 8-2. The strong performances carried on with wins against The Pilgrim School, High Halstow and Barnsole. During the morning session, we had managed to score 45 points whilst only conceding 6.
The afternoon session started the way we finished the morning; winning 11 – 0 against St William of Perth and 15 – 3 against Twydall. Our next match was against Featherby, who like us, were undefeated so far in the day. St Andrews quickly scored points, building up a 7 point lead. Featherby put our defence under the most pressure they had received all day but the St Andrew’s team withheld their attacks and they were not able to score any points. St Andrew’s won the game 7 – 0, meaning we were going in to the last game against Hempsted with 7 out of 7 wins. In a very tough game, St Andrew’s scored points regularly throughout the match whilst limiting Hempsted to scoring just the 2, with St Andrew’s winning 7 – 2.
Due to their excellent performances throughout the day, St Andrew’s finished in 2nd place overall, just losing out to St Mary’s Island on points scored. Winning all 8 matches throughout the day is an incredible achievement and all of the team should be extremely proud of themselves.
