On Thursday 12th January, pupils from Years 5 and 6 took part in the MYG Swimming gala at Medway Park along with 39 other schools. Each pupil took part in three individual heats as well as either the medley relay or the freestyle relay. For each stroke, the fastest boy and girl time for each school were combined together to give an overall school time.
St Andrew’s performed brilliantly throughout the morning, with either Emma Noble or Lilly Howard setting the fastest time out of the boys and girls for all four of the strokes. Suna Sekamanya also recorded the second fastest freestyle time out of all of the boys. These strong performances meant a high ranking finish if the two relay teams performed well in the afternoon session.
Despite a delayed start in the medley relay, the team bounced back from this slow start to comfortably win their heat, recording one of the fastest times out of all the teams. Our freestyle team also put in a very strong performance; unfortunately being overtaken into second place in the last five metres of their heat.
This excellent performance from all eight swimmers meant that St Andrew’s finished in second position – a fantastic result! All of the team she be very proud of how well they performed.
