On Thursday 2nd March, pupils from Years 5 and 6 took part in the MYG Table Tennis competition at Medway Park. Competing along with 33 other Schools, the St Andrew’s team would play in 8 matches which consisted of three best of three games for both boys and girls.
The team started brilliantly; beating Delce Academy 4 – 2, Saxon Way 5 – 1, Burnt Oak 6 -0 and New Road 6 – 0. This led us in to the lunch break undefeated, winning 21 of the 24 sets played.
We then had the tricky proposition of Hilltop, who like us were unbeaten. They were a very strong team and they beat us 5-1. Still, the children displayed great resilience and went on to win their next two games 6- 0 against Wainscott and Kingfisher respectively.
Our last game was against St. Mary’s Island; a team with the same record as we had and currently sitting atop the Mini Youth Games leader board! The games were tight to say the least, with every game going to 1-1. Our first two boys lost their final legs but with all three of our girls winning theirs, we just needed our final boy to win his final set to take the points. It was all down to Zach who was currently 1 game all and 10-10 in his final game. Next point wins! Zach smashes the ball to victory and this meant we won the game 4-2.
The St Andrew’s team finished with 7 wins and 1 defeat; a record they should all be very proud of considering the children only had 2 hours of practice prior to this event. This record also meant that we finished in 4th position overall – another Night of Champions place achieved!
Well done to the whole team, they played brilliantly throughout the whole day and should be extremely proud.
